Marc Chagall, 1887-1985, Russian-French artist, becoming one of the greatest artists of his time. An early modernist, he was associated with several major artistic styles and created works in virtually every artistic medium. He moved to France in 1910-1914, but returned to Russia in 1914 for some time before he moved back to France in 1923-1941. Chagall also lived in America from 1941-1948 but spent the rest of his life in France from 1948-1985.
