Smile Greenwich Tickets

I am honored to be serving on the co-chair for Smile Greenwich benefiting Operation Smile on Friday, November 9th, at the Belle Haven Club and would love for you to join me in supporting this incredible cause.   We are thrilled to announce that Grammy Award Winning Artist Sheena Easton will perform as our special guest entertainment.  Last year's event sold out and we are hoping to sell out this year as well!

In 2010, my family hosted the first Smile Greenwich event at my home, and we couldn’t have imagined all of the love and support shown by our community. Smile Greenwich is now an integral and blessed part of all of our lives, and together with friends like you, we have changed the lives of thousands of children and their families.

Our community efforts have raised more than $2.5 million through events, corporate partnerships and, of course, the beloved Three Little Bears program created by Lisa Lori and Kathy Van Zeeland.

On Friday, November 9, we will gather once again for a night of dancing, laughter and smiles. Smile Greenwich will celebrate the life-changing surgeries that Operation Smile’s medical volunteer teams perform every day around the world.

This year, we are pleased to include a Junior Ticket and extend a warm welcome to our future generation of change makers.

With your support, how many lives can we change tomorrow? We can't wait to see you there!  Please join my co-chairs & I for a wonderful evening -- Alisyn Camerota, Trisha Dalton, Lisa Lori & Stacy Zarakiotis

NYC Trunk Show, Amanda Wakes Up Paperback Launch & Champions of Change on CNN

NYC Trunk Show, Amanda Wakes Up Paperback Launch & Champions of Change on CNN

Last week, on June 12th we hosted our first NYC Trunk Show at my friend Anne Sylvestor's beautiful home on the Upper West Side.  We celebrated the launch of Alisyn Camerota's paperback launch of her book Amanda Wakes Up and introduced our store & food to NYC.  We had a wonderful evening full of toasts, appetizers from Chef Duane Shand, plenty of laughs and smiles.  We want to give a special thank you to Flavia Barker of Green of Greenwich for the beautiful flowers, Catherine Cutier of Vineyard Brands for the delicious wines including Miraval Rose Wine (my favorite),and everyone who turned out to help us celebrate.  Check our Facebook page for more photos.

To give you a behind the scenes look on the inspiration for her book, we sat down with Alisyn Camerota and asked her about her work, her life & the book.  To buy the book, you can click Amanda Wakes Up.

As fate would have it, we are lucky 10 times over as this week CNN is featuring their Champions of Change series spotlighting charities supported by their news anchors.  Alisyn and I went on a medical mission in April with Operation Smile to Bogota, Colombia and the segment aired for the first time yesterday.  It will air several times this week, and the full special will air this Saturday, June 23rd at 8 p.m.EST on CNN. click to see the segment -- Champions of Change

Enjoy!  Lisa Lori

A Conversation with CNN's New Day Alisyn Camerota, Author of Amanda Wakes Up

1.When did you know you wanted to be a journalist?

When I was 15 years old and sitting on the sofa after school watching Phil Donahue run around his studio audience with a microphone, I thought, what's THAT job called?

2. Tell us what you and Amanda have in common?

Well, have eerily similar career trajectories and job experiences.

3. What advice do you have for young journalists today?

Always be open to having your mind blown by a new fact or perspective.

4. Who are your (heroes) in real life?

Firefighters, police and emergency responders who run towards danger to save lives.

5. What is your greatest extravagance?

Fancy restaurants.  I just had an amazing meal at Chiltern Firehouse in London when I was covering the Royal Wedding.  It's possible I did a lousy job of converting from Euros to Dollars but I'd never seen that many digits on a dinner tab.

6. Tell me about what you’re wearing & why red?

Ever since Amanda Wakes Up came out, I find myself wearing a lot of red.  It works with the cover of the book, as well as the themes of drama and heat and power -- all of which play in the plot.

7. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
 "Let's fact-check this tweet."

8. What’s the quality you most like in a human?
Non-judgemental acceptance

9. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Having a happy family

10. What is your motto?

"To thine own self, be true."

San Francisco Smiles, Matt Nathanson & A Greenwich Affair

San Francisco Smiles, Matt Nathanson & A Greenwich Affair

Happy Monday!  Whew, what a great couple of weeks it has been.  I just returned from a quick trip to my hometown of San Francisco to serve as the Honorary Chair for the Operation Smile Gala for the second year in a row.  So many of my childhood, SF friends and family came out to celebrate with us, it was wonderful to have their support and love.  I was honored to join event chairs Shab Farzaneh & Shirin Aryanpour who founded this event and have done an incredible job galvanizing their friends and family to support Operation Smile.  I am extremely grateful to my friend Janet Lautenberger who served on the committee for the event, and hosted a beautiful pre-event cocktail party at her rooftop terrace (see the pic above) that has beautiful vistas of the city.  I am truly a lucky girl.  My whole family -- Mat and the boys, were able to join me this year at the event.   Anytime, I can spend time in San Francisco, visiting my mother who suffers from dementia, is something ,I can't express enough how valuable it is to me.
One of the great blessings of life getting involved with Operation Smile, has been all of the wonderful giving and kind people I have met.  I was so happy to co-present the Universal Smile Award with Sara Agah -- Sara's jewelry will be featured in our Pop Up -- she is also last year's Universal Smile Award honoree with husband Michael Franti, to musician Matt Nathanson for his work on behalf of the Starkey Hearing Foundation.  You can learn more about his work in my article about him on Huffington Post -- www.huffingtonpost.com/lisalori.  I have been a fan of his music for a long time and now, I am a fan of the human being.
If all that love wasn't enough, when I got off the plane I heard that the new issue of Greenwich Affair by Greenwich Magazine is on out featuring myself and two incredible women -- Jessica Mindich and Rachel Franco.  I am thrilled to have my #smilemore & Three Little Bears work for Operation Smile featured alongside their incredible projects -- the Caliber Collection & Greenwich Point Conservancy.  If you live in our area, pick it up if you get a chance.  A huge thanks to Cristin Maradino, editor of Greenwich Magazine for including me with these women.  So much to #smilemore about!  See you in 7 days for our Perfect Pop Up!  Lisa
