Cap D'Antibes by Eight & Bob

    $ 195.00

Sailing in the picturesque waters of the Grande Bleue, taking in a golden sunset from the gardens of the Eden Roc, enjoying a cocktail in the refined company of European aristocracy: summer on the French Riviera in the 1930s was the kind of glamorous existence that simply has no equal in contemporary society. For Albert Fouquet, it was the very pinnacle of life, one he was inspired to capture in a fragrance that might help chase away the doldrums of the cold Parisian winter. The resulting fragrance was Cap D’Antibes, an enveloping, sophisticated fougère that was exclusive to Fouquet’s private collection- until now.

    About the Fragrance:

Cap D’Antibes immediately whisks you to the sun-kissed cobblestones of the south of France with a bright, sparkling opening of sweet violet, cool mint, and lightly resinous birch. The heart of the fragrance further invigorates, with cinnamon, moss, and a regional aromatic accord evoke fresh evening breezes and elegant cocktail parties. In the drydown, warm incense and delicate cedar intertwine with a perfect touch of relaxing vanilla. We may never see a time and place that can quite equal the glamour of Albert Fouquet’s beloved Antibes. Luckily, he left us a perfect way to pay it a visit, wherever we may be.
    •  Cap d'Antibes Notes: mint, violet leaf, birch, cinnamon, moss, green notes, cedar, incense and vanilla.

    About Eight & Bob

Eight & Bob is a fragrance house whose exclusive scents date from the early twentieth century. It is a limited production of unique scents for both elegant men and women for everyday use.

    A Fragrance with History.

Albert Fouquet, the son of a Parisian aristocrat, was part of elite French society in the early twentieth century and a perfume connoisseur. In a room on the upper floor of the family chateau, Fouquet created and perfected various essences for his own personal use – aided by Philippe, the family butler.

At social events, he would surprise everyone with an exquisite fragrance that became increasingly in demand within the exclusive social circle he frequented. However, Fouquet continually rejected proposals to market his fragrance.

One night during his summer vacation in 1937 on the French Riviera (Côte d’Azur), Albert met and got on very well with a young American student who was touring France in a convertible: John F. Kennedy. Within minutes of being introduced, the vain JFK was captivated by the essence that Albert wore.

Albert was surprised a few months later when he began receiving letters from America with requests from various Hollywood directors, producers, and actors such as Cary Grant and James Stewart.

Everyone wanted the “EIGHT & BOB” cologne they had apparently discovered through John's father, who had maintained relationships with well-known stars because of his previous business ventures in the movie industry.  Unfortunately, the success of his cologne would not spread much further. In the spring of 1939, Albert died in an automobile accident near Biarritz (France). Philippe, the only person who could handle the orders, would only continue with the work for a few months, since the start of World War II forced him to leave his job with the Fouquet family. In the final shipments, Philippe hid the bottles inside books that he carefully cut by hand to prevent the Nazis from seizing the cologne.

Decades later, thanks to the family of Philippe the butler, the formula for “EIGHT & BOB” has been completely recovered, along with its carefully crafted production process. Once again, it has become one of the most exclusive colognes, preferred by the world’s most elegant men.

The story of Eight & Bob is based on a family story transmitted verbally over time. For its final narration fictionalized facts and characters were introduced.

    About This Fragrance:

Albert Fouquet, the creator of the Eight & Bob perfumes, was an aristocratic Parisian who produced perfumes exclusively for his own personal use and that of those nearest to him. Each perfume was born from a memory of a place or of a person whose exclusivity and distinctiveness Albert Fouquet wished to transform into extraordinary fragrances to conserve them in time.

On this occasion Fouquet wanted to satisfy the request of his dear friends Alessandro and Chiara, an Italian couple who owned a villa in Provence where they went to relax and enjoy themselves, breathing in the freshness of the more than 1600 wild plants that flowered every year in the countryside of this beautiful region of France.

Every spring, Albert Fouquet went from Antibes on the French Riviera to the home of Alessandro and Chiara to share with them the splendid spectacle of colours and the wonderful aromas. During one of his trips, while decanting one of the wines he produced from his own grapes, Alessandro told Fouquet that his next diplomatic post would be in the far-away Philippines. He enjoyed carrying out his work travelling around the world, but during his long stays abroad he always remembered with melancholy the beauty of Provence.

Some months later, when Alessandro and Chiara were already settled in the Philippines, they were surprised by the best present they could receive from their good friend. Only an artist such as Albert Fouquet was capable of transforming into a perfume the freshness of the exuberant aromas brought forth by the plants growing in the Provence countryside. A beautiful green flask contained all the magic of an unequalled perfume, unique in its fragrance and freshness: Champs de Provence.
